Birthday Card from my daughter Yelena!

Now I figured out how to post pictures on the blog. It was about time. Yelena sent me the most wonderful birthday card I've got in my life. It is trully awesome. You can see it here. Just click on the little image.

However if you are anything like me, then you will need the translation and Yelena was kind enough to write it inside the card:

It is so wonderful to hear from the kids that spent time in your home. They really become your family and there are times when you just can't help but miss them a lot. I miss Yelena, I really do and so does my wife and my stepdaughter. We all hope one day we will meet again. Hopefully soon!

A Blast From The Past

I got a surprise mail today. An exchange student that supposed to stay with us a year or so ago and ended up with another family sent me an email. She was so busy when she was in Charlotte that we hardly got to meet her, unfortunately.

I guess my determination to get more involved with CIEE and exchange students is the right one as it feels good to me what I am doing. And things are just happening in this regard.

Now back to Julia (exchange student I just mentioned above).

She is doing well. She just got her drivers license back in Germany and gained some independance. She is a junior and looking forward helping with a senior prom this year. She is also looking forward on her vacation in May when she and her family are going sailing in Holland. She plans to go camping in France and visit Berlin during summer. Now even better news is that she might be visiting Charlotte next year. I sincerely hope she can meet with us this time.

Let's get started...

Hello!

My name is Iztok and I am a Local Coordinator (LC) for CIEE. I've just started to work officially with the organization.

I've just returned from my training session in Boston. CIEE was nice enough to organize this event. I have learned a lot about two programs, FLEX and YES. FLEX is a program sponsored by the State Department to bring high school exchange students from countries of former Soviet Union. YES is simmilar for middle eastern region. I am very excited working closer with students from these programs in this region and wider.

On the other side I am happy to say I've placed two German students (Julia and Sabrina) and I am looking forward working with them and their hosts during their stay here.

I'll be using this blogs to keep students, hosts and everyone else involved and informed. So if you are a student, host or other LC that keeps your own blog or anything similar, please let me know and I will link your pages/blogs .
